Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I would choose to live on campus, because of the cheap accomodation and the location to the auditoriums. The University is located quite far from downtown. Transportation to and from the university can be quite time- consuming if you live outside the campus. Another reason for me to stay on campus, is that other accommodation, such as renting an appartment, is really expensive in Singapore.

Personal comments
The room was quite small, if you take into account that I had to share it with another person. But the stay at Hall 9 was good and would have stayed there again if I had the chance. I met a lot of new and interesting personalities from all around the world, and learnt a great deal about the different cultures.

I wish I had known...
I am a person that finds it most challenging and interesting to experience new things as they come. It was not that difficult to adapt to the Singaporean way of living. But if you like to have everything planned, you maybe have to consider to get hold of all kinds of information about the culture and and region before you travel to Singapore and Malaysia.

NTU is a university with ambitions, and works hard to tighten the gap to NUS, to become the leading University in Singapore and South East Asia.

If you get the chance to study in Singapore.......Take it!!! Singapore is a great country to experience and to live in. There are certain things you have to put into consideration. If you are going to Singapore you have to go there with an open mind. You have to be active and not rely on others to invite you. Singapore can be a very cold society but if you are an open person curious about learning abut new cultures Singapore is a tremendous country to study in.

There are always things that can be improved. The hierarchy within the administration at the university is not always very efficient. Things could be arranged differently that would ease the relationship between the administration and the students.

The official business language in Singapore is English. The official language is Malay, but the majority of the population speaks mandarin. I did only learn a few important phrases in Malay and Mandarin, but there was no problems getting around with just speaking English.

Norway is a country based upon taxes and more taxes. By having all these taxes it makes Norway one of the most expensive countries in the world. Singapore is much cheaper in certain areas due to lower salaries and lower taxes. But there are areas where Singapore is more expensive, such as alcohol. A pint of beer is really expensive in Singapore.

The biggest surprise was the poor access to computers and printers. But if you were able to buy/rent one you had unlimited internet access.
