Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Major reason would be to be closer to the city. Furthermore, you would have the chance of having more room if affordable, and try to move together with someone that I know or who seems to have same habits. Moreover, chances of obtaining a much quiter place would be favorable.

Personal comments
The accomodation is simple, but sufficient and fits into the culture as experienced by myself. As prices are fairly cheap, you can not expect to live in a 5 star hotel. Most of the rooms are double room, i.e. are shared by 2 persons of the same sex. This allows to get to know people that you might have otherwise never gotten to know. I experienced the complete cultural experience I was looking for.

Personal comments
Since English was my first foreign language taken in school I already had a good foundation when I decided to do a school exchange with an American high school for one academic year. Since then, also supported by many vacations into english speaking countries, my level of english reached near-native. Given the fact, that my home university's courses are all taught and instructed in English, I was perfectly equipped for going abroad. As my English is more American style, I had to get adjusted to the Asian prouniciation, but believe did very well in the end of understanding everyone. I certainly did not have any problems of voicing my concerns, or ideas to various topics. Singapore is a melting pot of various cultures, therefore also a hub of different languages spoken. I certainly did not pick up any of those, since without any prior knowledge asian languages always prove to be a hard task.

Personal spending habits
Norway is a country based upon taxes and more taxes. By having all these taxes it makes Norway one of the most expensive countries in the world. Singapore is much cheaper in certain areas due to lower salaries and lower taxes. But there are areas where Singapore is more expensive, such as alcohol. A pint of beer is really expensive in Singapore.

The biggest surprise was the poor access to computers and printers. But if you were able to buy/rent one you had unlimited internet access.

Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
I highly recommend it! Its a "clasical" university in the sense that it contains a lot of clubs, fascilities and possibilities, whether you are interested in chess or karate. It is one of the best universities of Asia, and because of its young age, it is still climbing. Singapore as a city is one of the most cosmopolitan and buzzling cities in the World. You will meet a lot of interesting persons!

Favorite night spot will defenetly be zouk, a really good night club there young singaporeans get together to dance.
For eating there are a number of great resturants in little india for evrybody who can take spicy food!
Eating is the national hobby of Singapore and there are great choice. Don't miss the hawker centers!
And finally I think the best place to stop by to chill out for a drink or a coffee is boat quay with a view over the singaporean skyline.

There are always things that can be improved. The hierarchy within the administration at the university is not always very efficient. Things could be arranged differently that would ease the relationship between the administration and the students.
