I wish I had known...
Not much really - Denmark and Sweden are not that different. Didn't know how much it mean to me to meet so many different people from other countries and cultures, though!

Evreybody here speeks english quite well, so don't be afraid to participate in those courses tought in english. There are courses, both beginners and advanced, to get you started in swedish, but if you are not familiar with either of theese languages you are in for some hard work catching up!

Be here for the introduction days - thats when you meet your friends, and thats when social groups are formed - don't miss it!!! Some people are lonely and homesick because they're isolated and don't know anybody. The international student organisation here isn't too well organized, so use the opportunities you do have!

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
All the different Apartments were rent by a lot of different Students from all over the world. It was easy to get in touch with them. I prefer Apartments for the reason of space.

Personal comments
The Housing was arranged with the help of the host university. Though the price was quite high it was worth it because it was kept clean and we were well supported by the information desk employees. We were able to use a group room for weekly "international" cooking sesssions and were free to welcome visitors at any time. The apartment house is located 5 minutes from university and therefore perfectly situated for walking to ones classes.

No, I pretty much received any Information I needed by the International Office of the host university before my trip to the host country. They put much effort in informing their future students.

I personally recommend the International Business Course. At the beginning it sounds like a lot of work, in the end it is a lot of work but worthwhile and a very nice experience in independent studies and self responsiblity.

Visiting Mälardalen Högskola will bring you much joy. There is a lot of activities arranged by the Internation Office such as trips to Helsinki or similar. The education level is high and universities like this one are very well equipped. When travelling acros the country english is an everywhere spoken language.

you need a lot of efforts to close to swedish people in Vasteras without the staffs who work for the international students. Have an open-mind

By living in Sweden, I learned many phrases and words that I may not have studied in the classroom. It was very educational just to go shopping downtown or out to eat with friends. There is nothing that can replace the education and language experience you get by living in the country where that language is spoken. It was also good to know that if I was really having trouble, I could always use English, as most Swedes speak that as a second language. Most of my language frustration occurred in the classroom where the instruction was more advanced than I was ready for.
