“Students have to be very independent”
Jemimah D
Germany, Undergraduate
Language, 2014
Overall
There isn't really a student life as we know it in England. The campus is very spread out, and a lot of the buildings are quite outdated. There are rarely campus parties. But within each faculty, there are excellent and helpful professors. Students are pretty much left to their own devices when studying, so it is flexible which can be nice, but it is also easy to feel a bit lost.

Nightclubs: Bhaggay Disco and MK2. For a more german but lively atmosphere Ballermann 6. Loads of great restaurants, in particular Acapulco and Miles Smiles. Must see Schloss Benrath and take a trip to Koblenz. Karnival, the locals go mad and its a good chance to relive your childhood

Pack as little as you can, and find out as much as you can about the city that you are going to.

Academic

The teachers could have been experts in the subjects they teached in. This would have made the classes more interesting, when they actually knew what thy talked about.

the german variety spoken in Duesseldorf is rather good and intelligible. Many natives are rather fluent in English and this could be a deterrent in the first weeks.
