even if most of things cost less than in Italy I spent a lot during my exchange experince in Montreal because I took the Erasmus like an holiday lasted 6 months; I travelled a lot all over canada so at the end travel+nightlife+accomodation+food= more than 8000 euro in 6 months

The cost of living in Montreal is significantly lower than in the UK. However, as you end up going out all the time, this is no guarantee that you actually end up spending less!

The banking system is Qc is pretty antiquated, and you need to book an appointment to set up a bank account. This can sometimes take several weeks.

telephone in Canada (even to Europe) is very cheap; as my apartment was situated in the center of Montreal, it was a bit more expensive than my apartment in Austria; as I travelled a lot before and after the exchange program in East as also in West Canada, I spent a lot of money for travel.

Nightlife and travels are cheaper than in Europe. Food quite the same in drugstores and markets, cheaper in restaurants. Canadian immigration authorities ask you to proove your ability to have the necessary savings for all your stay in Canada(as far as you can't work in Canada with a student visa).
