I wish I had known...
I wish I had known that the student dorm in which I stayed was not a very good option in terms of facilities. The pictures on their website were misleading so I believe I could have made a better choice in terms of accommodation.

Personal recommendation
I believe that the modules in this university are quite hard, considering the fact that they are also taught in German. My recommendation is that if students are considering to spend their Erasmus semester at the FU, they should be fluent in German or eager to improve their German.

Berlin is very close to the borders with Poland, so it is a very nice opportunity to visit it!

It is a big university in a big town, i'm from Rome and was used to some situations, if you come from a smaller reality you may have to adapt to a bigger dimension.

Berlin has changed much since i was there, so i cannot really give you addresses or things like that (but when i went back 2 years later i still loved it!). It was not easy to get in touch with the local students, but there were so many Erasmus you could enjoy the opportunity of such a city with them!!!!

The homestay portion of the experience was designed to bring students directly into the host culture. Yet, as I stated before, my host family was not very social and did not make time to speak with me at length, which enabled me to go out more and speak with locals, which had its own problems. The majority of Germans speak some if not perfect English, thus attempting to practice with them was often futile. Ultimately, I feel that after four months in Germany, my language capabilities did improve.

Very different from UK - experience can only be good. Annoyed by inadequacy of this website though. I studied in Berlin as part of my undergraduate degree in Edinburgh (MA German). I have since completed a postgraduate degree in European Politics at University College London (MA Politics, Security and Integration), but the iagora site's overly structured designed doesn't seem to allow me to show this.
