You must know that Kufstein is very small, but it has some nice clubs like Kufa, Desperados or Arabia, these are the discos. Then if you prefer have a drink in a more calm place, Tscharlies', Manhattan and Carizma are the most popular among the students.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
I'm living in ISR and it's great, here you get know better the austrians students because you don't only have classes with them, but spend more time with them every day. And to get integrated in the students atmosphere the residence is the best place to stay, and it's not expensive.

Well, I was lucky because I got a place in the International Residence, but many exchange students didn't and they had to look for a flat by themselves and I can say that the experiences we had are very different. In general, all those students who stayed in a flat during the first semester went back home, but all the ones who stayed in one of the residences decided to stay longer because we were really enjoying our time here.

Kufstein is the best place to come if you speak good English and also a bit of German because you'll be able to practice them. But it's not a good place to learn English from the bases and to learn German neither, since here they speak a dialect which is hard to understand. But if you have a knowledge of both languages you won't have any kind of problems and you'll improve both.

Academic
Course recommendations
The courses in general are pretty good, and the classrooms are very small so there aren't many students in one lesson, so you can have a close relationship with the teacher. The only think I don't like is the organisation in the International Relations Office, they are such a mess!

Personal spending habits
Well, food and housing are almost the same as in Spain. Then, I'm spending less money in telephone cause I use internet to keep in touch with my family and friends and in Spain I used telephone for that. Nightlife is also cheapier here, since I live in Madrid and everything is very expensive, but Kufstein is a small town. For example, entrance ticket to go to Kufa (the biggest disco in Kustein) 3 euros, in Madrid a disco is like 10 euros. In travells I'm spending more money, the reason is very easy, here I'm travelling more and more often than what I do in Spain

Personal comments
In Spain everybody thinks that Austria is an expensive country, and it is, but as I said before, Kufstein is a small town and it's not so much expensive. Anyway, to save money what you can do is doing your shopping at Hofer (the cheapiest supermarket in town) or in Interspar and buying the Spar products and those ones in sale, I'm doing this and I spend almost the same as in Spain

Personal recommendation
The university is very very small, it has only about 800 students, but this is good because you get to know everybody easily. As I said before, the organisation of the International Relations Office is not very good, but be patient, and if you don't like something or you are not agree with something, talk with Mr. Raffili, he is the most competent person there.

Final comments
First of all, say that before coming here I was not sure if I had chosen well the place to do my ex-change, but after 6 months here I know that I couldn't have chosen any better place. It's a very good place to travell because it's in the middle of Europe, one hour from big cities like Munich and Innsbruck and one hour and one half from Salzburg. Italy, Switzerland and the Cezch Republic are also near. Second, people in Kufstein are very nice. In the school you have to work, but it's easy going, it's much easier than others schools and we have a lot of free time, but at the same time we are learning a lot since the lessons are very active (we have to work a lot during the lessons in groups projects) And last thing, if you like winter sports, this is your paradise! There is a skii resort only 20 minutes from the town and during the skii season the skii buses which take you there are for free! I only have one word to describe the skii in the Alps...AMAZING!!! Finally, you have to come to Kufstein!!! You'll love it, everybody does!
