Speak German to a German and they will invariably reply in English...same anywhere for us poor mono-lingual Anglos trying to learn another language, sometimes peole will not let us try.

The greatest thing is that I met so much people from so many nationalities! The studies are ok, and important ofcourse but when you go, enjoy it to the fullest. It changed my life completely in a very good way!

I had a great time in Bielefeld, make contact with other people because this is quite simple there. If you life near the university, check in at the Bierkeller sometime, a lot of international students are there, music and cheap drinking!! In the weekends, travel by train or rent a car and go and see Cologne, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg and other cities.

you have to become integrated really soon (lot of pression) but don't have to feel ashamed if you cannot say something fluently at the beginning.
