There's a lot of confusion as far as grading is concerned with some teachers, they didn't quite seem to follow the curve they were supposed to. Also, if you're not from a country where you have to buy books for school, be prepared for the shock...I paid 320 € on mine, you're forced to get the newest edition...(Unless you're French.)

Strangely enough, I didn't have enough opportunities to speak French. Interaction with French students wasn't easy - they don't take the same classes - and the language of tuition was English. At the school there were some problems because some students and even teachers had a poor knowledge of English that really dragged down the quality of a class. It is quite disappointing when you write something in an exam and the teacher doesn't understand what you are saying because of language barrier on his part...

I wish I had known...
Had I known what I now know about how the school operates I wouldn't have gone. But in all fareness I know people who I'm sure have absolutely no complaints about the school. It all depends on how it all starts.

Personal recommendation
Absolutely nothing works in the school. As far as academics are concerned, the English side would work if the French side, which gets priority, weren't there to mess it up. But as far as dealing with administration....Good luck!! Remember that you have no right to complain, you should next expect anything to work, and it does help if you're from a country they happen to like.

Get everything in writing. In three copies. Also, if you're an EEC citizen, you don't need to worry about translating your birth certificate though they tell you to, and if you're staying only for one semester, don't worry about the Carte de Séjour. You don't need it to apply for the CAF money and you'll waste a day being insulted at the Préfecture.

Personal spending habits
Housing is expensive, telephone is because you have to get a prepaid card and call prices are just appaling. Food is cheap at the grocery store, didn't go out to eat one single time. Travel by train is ridiculously expensive within France. And going out in Paris is painful, it is not at all uncommon to pay 8 € for a pint and 10-15 € for a cocktail...Funny because at the grocery store the cheapest sixpack is 2.13 €....

YES, the books I had to buy for school...320 € for books that are too heavy to carry back home...There goes 80 percent of my Erasmus grant!! I was also surprised that I had to go to an internet café any time I wanted to use the internet or print...The school's computer facilities are a joke.

The university is absolutely terrible about arranging anything, housing in particular. There were people who were very happy with theirs but a lot of miscommunication, confusion, and flat out lying took place. Apartments even disappeared overnight. Also, housing conditions were very unequal. Definitely do not trust that you will get the apartment you were promised and that you paid the deposit for.
