Personal recommendation
Pack you backpack and spend a lot of time travelling around. go to the golden triangle, to some national parks, to the temples. don't waste time and let the thai students show you their country. they are so nice and very proud of their culture. you will see so many things.

the only travel tip is: do it! travel through thailand, go by train, because you see the country and it's really cheap to do that. thais are generally rather shy, but try to get in touch with them, they are soooo nice once the ice is broken...

rasta cafe... you have to ask all tuk-tuk drivers you see and maybe someone knows were it is - that's the way we've always done it. great place with great music, a fireside and very nice decoration... romantic!

Personal comments
thais do speak a good deal of english - especially the students. nevertheless it is difficult for us to understand them because they have a completely different accent. appart from the students you hardly find anyone who speaks proper english, so use your arms and legs!
